Some notes about the following paintings:
Some of these paintings use the Spanish archways as portals that look into Cuba (or perhaps out of Cuba). The Royal Palm (the national tree and a symbol for freedom) is intermixed as another contradictory metaphor - repeated across the archways to create a barrier. Additional metaphors create the meaning behind each painting.
Other paintings represent the lush, beauty of Cuba. The fruit, like her people, are rich and sensuous, in spite of uncontrollable circumstances.
